THE BEAUTY OF A NEW DAY

How beautiful to wake with the natural joy of a bird or of a babe, to wake with no purpose but to sing or laugh for the simple delight of being alive.

Butterfly

It is Springtime and orange butterflies flitter about in pairs. I am reminded of the day when I wrote of the same kind of butterflies in my song Calling Your Name Too. Butterflies were dancing then also.  I was sitting beside the mighty Clarence River near Grafton, one of my favourite Australian rivers. It is a few years on now and I count my blessings to have those years of growth behind me. Things are much more peaceful these days.

The sun shines brightly through the trees as I sit on my outside lounge absorbing this beautiful morning. The day's heat will surely arrive and the place will seem deserted under a midday sun. But early morning it is fresh and gorgeous.

Even without the innocence and pure trust of a babe though, it is still possible to embrace a new day. It is amazing at times how a night's sleep will bring you into a whole new chapter of your life. Tears and frustrations of the previous weeks or months may be washed away at the right time and you wake looking at the world through clearer eyes and a lighter heart. Of course you never know which night will be that one of restful sleep and positive change.

But you wake and realise that the worst is now behind you, that the storm has passed. And while there is still cleaning up to do after the storm, things to put in place, you realise you now have the strength and energy to do so. And help will come for the cleanup if needed. It is beneficial to stay open to that possibility.

It is important though to have had times of rest and surrender, to simply experience your feelings and allow them out. Where would growth be without such times? And how could beautiful mornings ever stand a chance of being noticed and savoured without the comparison of darkness and storms.

Each day brings the opportunity to sit and absorb the newness of the morning, to realise that you are ready to move forward again. It brings you hope and renewal. And while it may be some time before you feel like lying on your back and kicking your legs in the air like a babe in joy, or sitting in a tree and singing like a bird, it is a new day and here you are.

A delightful bird is teasing me. It is tiny and flitting about nearby but never too close. It sings and laughs, leaving me smiling. Insects chatter. The heart is open.
A new day is here.
